Sikkim the second smallest state in India. Located in the eastern Himalayan range. This state is home to India’s largest and World’s third highest elevated mount Kanchenjunga 8,586mt. (28,935 ft.). it bound by Tibet on north and northeast, Bhutan to the east, Nepal to the west and Bengal to the south. Sikkim also very near to the Siliguri corridor a 30km wide pass connects Northeast to rest of India. Sikkim was officially made a part of Indian union in the year 1975.
Kanchenjunga national park a UNESCO world heritage site spreads 35% of total area of Sikkim. Mount Kanchenjunga is visible from almost all corners of the state. Sikkim is one of the largest producers of Cardamom and Spices along with tea plantation is a major agricultural business.
In addition to this North Sikkim is least populated area also possessed high raising mountains, emerald lakes and colorful Rhododendron and orchid flower valleys towards Tibet border. A part of old Silk route (Ancient road network that use for trade, connects Asia to the Middle East, Europe and Africa) also passes through East Sikkim this is closed after Sino- India war in 1963 and reopened in the year 2006 only for commercial purposes.

Marg, this place is a must visit because a visit to Gangtok is incomplete if you miss this Boulevard square. It is a pedestrian zone, no vehicles are allowed and it is also No smoking zone a litter free area. M.G. Marg is a long stretch of open mall or boulevard square where local and tourists take leisure stroll or just sit and relax on one of many benches laid along road. Today morning after having a delicious breakfast at hotel we proceed to Tsomgo (Changu) Lake this scenic high-altitude lake located in the elevation 3,780mt. (12,400ft.) a 38km far from Gangtok is madly popular with Indian travelers.
Baba Harbhajan Singh Temple located between Nathula and Jeepla pass at an altitude of 13,123 ft. a 16km further journey from Changu lake, Harbhajan Singh was a sentry of Punjab regiment and was posted here as part of border patrol force. In October 1968 he disappeared. It is said that while escorting mules carrying provisions, he fell into a stream and drowned. After a few days he reappeared in the dreams of one of his sentry colleagues and asked him to make a memorial on his name. many sentries believe that Harbhajan comes here every night as his camp bed sheet gets crumpled every morning and his polished shoes turn muddy in the evening. Nathula Pass Indian citizens are permitted to continue 18km along the spectacular road from Changu lake this is located on the elevation 4130mt. (13,500ft.) Nathula pass Literally means (Listening Ears Pass) is on India- China border, old silk route is passes through this area, this area is covered with the snow throughout the year and requires permit to visit this area and in the months of December and January temperature levels drops up to -25 degrees.

Today early in the morning we proceed to North Sikkim, is blessed with nature’s unspoilt bounties, the pristine mountains are heaven for nature lovers. Going north past Gangtok, the narrow NH 10 cling dangerously to steep wooded slopes above the Teesta river. Enroot we cover Seven sister waterfalls, a multistage cascade, cuts a chasm above roadside cardamom groove and plummets into a rocky pool. Further down the road Phudong 1,815mt. (6000 ft.).
A popular lunch stop at Km39 is popular for Phodong Gompa (Monastery). Then we further proceed to Singhik at Km69 we cover “Singhik Viewpoint” offers spectacular views of mountains including mount Kanchenjunga and associated peaks. We continue north beyond Singhik reach Chungthang at Km94 it is small town, here the road branches up the Lachung chu and Lachen chu Valleys, Chungthang is believed to be a holy place which has been blessed by Guru Padmasambhava, the patron of saint Sikkim. There is a rock here which to this day bears the hand and footprints of saint Padmasambhava. From small opening in the rock there is continuous flow of mineral water. There is a small patch of land here from which grows paddy every year. Chungthang is mired in myths and legends, one such being that this is the place from where the word ‘Demazong’ (The hidden valley of rice) as Sikkim is known first originated from here.
In the late afternoon we reach Lachung 2,700mt. (8,856 ft.) and check-in hotel. Lachen is a small village hardly with a dozen of hotels. Lachung chu river flows through it and there is Lachung Monastery located amid apple orchards just across the scenic river.

Today we start early in the morning to Zero-point (Yume samdong) 4,664mt. (15,300ft.) elevation, a 50km journey will be more exciting. Zero- Point happens to be the last outpost of civilization where three rivers meet amid a panoramic view of snow-clad mountains and picturesque surroundings. It offers spectacular views of far located mountains Pauhunri and Kangchengyao of India- Tibet border.
After this we return down to Yumthang valley (Valley of Flowers) 3,597mt. (11,798 ft.) is located between Zero-point and Lachung. this valley is white wonderland in winter and home to a burst of colors in summer. Yumthang valley is a magnificent mix of flora and fauna set amidst picturesque beauty. During spring when the flowers bloom the valley comes alive with varied hues of Rhododendrons and Primulas that lend it different colors making it look like an artist’s canvas.
Singhba Rhododendrons Sanctuary is an unmissable place that boasts more than 20 species of Rhododendrons flowers in spring, when these flowers blooms, bright shades of Red, Purple and Pink paints the valley floor, the riot of shades framed against the towering snow-capped mountains. Hot springs to the right of a River Yumthang is equally popular among tourists. The views of flat valleys surrounded by lush green mountains and Yumthang river flowing through grassy alpine meadows are mesmeric, we can walk to the river, sit on its banks and enjoy the beauty.
Afternoon return to the hotel and have lunch. Then proceed to the Lachen 2,743mt. (9,000ft.) a 50km travel via Chungthang. Check-in hotel at Lachen in the evening.

Today very early in the morning (03:30 AM) we proceed for an excursion to Gurudongmar lake 5,427mt. (17,800ft.) is a largest freshwater lake in Sikkim located on 290 acer and considered one of the highest altitude glacial lakes in the World. This lake is considered very sacred by Buddhists and Hindus. It is 66km far from Lachen. First stop will be at Thanggu valley 3,963mt. (13,000ft) at Km35. From here we further proceed to lake Gaigaon check post (15,000ft.) is the last check post where we need to show our permits, this is highest altitude check post in the World.
Gurudongmar lake is surrounded by snow clad mountains making it a stunningly picturesque site. This Lake named after Guru Padmasambhava (8th century Buddhist master) who came here on his way back from Tibet. On our way back to Lachen we visit Tsopta valley 4,024mt. (13,200ft.) during the summer and monsoon the valley is carpeted with flowers such as Rhododendrons, Primula and several kinds of wildflowers.
Later we return to Lachen in the afternoon. Lachen is small village with hardly 250 families its original habitants are known as “Lachenpas” who are Sikkimese Buddhist community. The mountain stream Lachen Chu flows through it in deep gorges, and on the other side of the river are large mountains with pine forests and snow peaks. Lachen Monastery is one of oldest built in 1858. Handicraft center of Lachen at market area is must visit where Lachenpas have been weaving carpets, shawls, blankets, bags etc. all are made up of with yak and sheep wool, we can also purchase souvenirs made with wood and clay.

Today morning after having a breakfast we head for quick sightseeing of Gangtok, we cover Gangtok Rope way, Tashi viewpoint, Hanuman Tok (Temple) viewpoint, Ganesh Tok viewpoint, Bakthang waterfall, Flower exhibition center, Namgyal Institute of Tibetology. Return to the hotel in the afternoon have a lunch and head towards Darjeeling. Check-in hotel in the late afternoon and evening is free for your own activities.
